Modern Home Tour/Austin. Part III.

More from the Modern Home Tour/Austin.

3103 Highland Terrace

Our favorite home is a transformed 1950s ranch. Architect Travis Young opened up the living area as well as reoriented the whole house to capture backyard view to Shoal Creek. According to press, this home is a 5 star green building, with a geo-thermal heatpump a/c system. It’s also a renovation rather than a tear-down. Go green!

The original living space was divided by walls, and the original kitchen had one small window. Now kitchen and dining room are surrounded by window views to the creek, and the living room opens to a deck. The stairwell to a downstairs bed and bath also opens up the space. A cupola above the living room brings in additional light.

At the opposite end, the deck steps down to a small yard. But much of the back is a steep slope down to the creek.

The masterbath with large walk-in shower has views all around to the creek.

Hallway storage.

Cinder block construction in the Burnet Road neighborhood.

Open and loft-like in the main living areas. Here’s an office in the front of the house.
